Victron Grey Smart BMV-712 Battery Monitor: Advanced Battery Management for

Your RV or Off-Grid Setup

Highly Accurate Battery ‘Fuel Gauge’, Time-to-Go Indicator, and More

With the BMV-712, you can rely on precise tracking of your battery's remaining capacity. This advanced battery monitor considers variables like ampere-hours consumed, discharge current, temperature, and battery age. Its software algorithms work out these complexities to provide detailed information not just on voltage, current, and ampere-hours consumed, but also on state of charge, time-to-go, and power consumption in Watts. Moreover, the BMV-712 adds an extra input to measure a second battery's voltage, temperature, or midpoint voltage.

Simple Installation Process

Installing the BMV-712 is as simple as it gets. All electrical connections link to the quick connect PCB on the current shunt, which connects to the monitor with a standard RJ12 telephone cable. The package includes a 10m RJ 12 cable and a 2m battery cable with fuse. No additional components needed! The package also comes with a separate front bezel for a square or round display, a rear mounting securing ring, and screws for front mounting.

Effortless Programming with Your Smartphone

Setting up the BMV-712 is a breeze, thanks to its quick install menu and detailed setup menu with scrolling texts. For an even simpler solution, you can download our smartphone app and manage settings from there.

Midpoint Voltage Monitoring – Exclusive to BMV-702 and BMV-712

Previously a feature of large, industrial battery banks, midpoint voltage monitoring is now accessible and affordable with the BMV-712. This feature is essential for monitoring any battery bank as it alerts you to any deviations that can point to a problem with your battery. Following an alarm for midpoint voltage deviation can save your expensive battery from severe damage. Consult the BMV manual for more detailed information.

Key Features of the BMV-712 Battery Monitor

• Real-time data on battery voltage, current, power, ampere-hours consumed, and state of charge
• Displays remaining time at the current rate of discharge
• Programmable visual and audible alarm
• Programmable relay to manage non-critical loads or to run a generator when needed
• 500 Amp quick connect shunt and connection kit with shunt selection up to 10,000 Amps
• VE.Direct communication port
• Records a wide range of historical events to assess usage patterns and battery health
• Wide input voltage range: 6.5 – 95V
• High current measurement resolution: 10 mA (0.01A)
• Low current consumption: 2.9Ah per month (4mA) at 12V and 2.2Ah per month (3mA) at 24V

Additional Features Exclusive to BMV-712

The BMV-712 offers extra input to measure voltage (of a second battery), temperature, or midpoint voltage, and corresponding alarm and relay settings.

About Midpoint Voltage

When batteries are connected in series, one bad cell or battery can wreak havoc on your large, expensive battery bank. Timely warnings can be generated by measuring the midpoint voltage. For more information, consult section 5.2 of the BMV manual. To maximize the service life of series-connected batteries, we recommend our Battery Balancer (BMS012201000).

Bluetooth Connectivity Inside (Exclusive to BMV-712)

With built-in Bluetooth, the BMV-712 is ready for the Internet of Things (IoT) era. As Bluetooth is implemented in most other Victron Energy products, wireless communication between products will simplify your system installation and enhance performance. Plus, the bi-stable alarm relay prevents increased current draw in case of an alarm.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. What are the main differences between the BMV-712 and the BMV-700?

The BMV-712 has all the features of the BMV-700, but it also includes an extra input to measure a second battery's voltage, temperature, or midpoint voltage. Additionally, the BMV-712 has built-in Bluetooth for easy wireless setup and monitoring.

1. How does the BMV-712 compare to the SmartShunt?

The SmartShunt is essentially a BMV with Bluetooth and without a display. The BMV-712, on the other hand, has a physical display and also includes Bluetooth. The decision between the two depends on your preference for a physical display and the specific monitoring needs of your system.

1. What is midpoint voltage monitoring?

Midpoint voltage monitoring is a feature that monitors the voltage halfway along a string of batteries. If there's a significant or increasing deviation from the expected midpoint voltage, it indicates a potential problem with one of the batteries in the string. This feature can help prevent severe damage to an expensive battery bank.
